Registered Nurse (New Lenox, IL)

Location: Joliet, IL

Program or Service: Residential Network; Network 3

Schedule/Shift: M-F; with occasional nights and weekend responsibilities

Description: Under the direction of the Program Director, promotes the physical and mental health of individuals served by applying nursing processes.  This is done as a member of the interdisciplinary team and has the goal of assisting individuals to assume responsibility for their own health.  The nurse coordinates and monitors medical services, including psychiatric and medication services, in accord with the requirements of regulatory agencies and in response to individual needs.  For every program participant served it is the goal of the nurse to provide the best possible health.

Responsibilities: Some of the responsibilities may include:  coordinating the Annual Physical Examination, ensuring appropriate medical follow-up; providing special instructions to individuals and home staff related to medical diagnosis; keeping track of allergies, medication, diet, special emergency plans related to ongoing medical conditions; coordinating and reviewing lab work, medical appointments and clinic consultations; coordinating care with clinics, outside physicians and hospitals; health teaching; communicates with the individuals parents/guardians in regards to illness, injuries and changes in health care needs functions as part of an interdisciplinary team at team meetings for Individual Plan of Service (IPS) and Quarterly or Semi-annual review.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Associates Degree in Nursing.  Two years of experience working as a registered nurse including some medical/surgical experience and awareness of the needs of people with mental and intellectual disabilities.

The ability to read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

Some of the physical demands include:  standing, walking, sitting, using hand to finger, handling or feeling objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.

Certification requirements include a Registered Nurse license through the state of Illinois.
