Make a Difference in the Lives of Others!

5x7 HOLIDAY CARD DRAFT

During our Annual Appeal, we tell you stories of people with disabilities and mental health needs who are flourishing, all because of the incredible generosity of people like you. Here is the story of Ryan and Lisa Thompson.

In March 2025, Ryan and Lisa Thompson celebrated their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary in their new apartment provided by Trinity Services.  However, Ryan and Lisa’s story is about more than just a happy anniversary.

Ryan and Lisa both have cerebral palsy that requires them to use wheelchairs.  Over the years, Ryan and Lisa lived with several organizations that did not provide them with the necessary services.  Given their situation, the Thompsons decided to seek residential services with Trinity Services.

Ray Carmody, Trinity’s Director of Operations, and Carly Bagnuolo, a Trinity residential director, stepped in to help.  Ryan and Lisa explained their situation to Ray and Carly.  Their current provider did not have an accessible van to accommodate two wheelchairs.  As a result, Ryan and Lisa rarely left the house or made it to medical appointments.  In fact, it had been years since Lisa had a dental appointment.  “To make matters worse, Lisa had undergone hip replacement surgery,” said Carly.  “However, there were complications with the surgery, and the doctors never completed the hip replacement, leaving Lisa without a left hip.  In constant pain, Lisa required special services, including a specialized wheelchair.”

The Thompsons moved into their new apartment operated by Trinity Services with 24-hour staff in April 2025.  “The apartment lease is in their name,” explained Ray Carmody.  “It’s close to downtown Chicago, where they can take advantage of activities and events.”  Lisa also received her new wheelchair, tailored to her unique needs.

Ryan and Lisa both felt so much happier being in the care of Trinity.  “They told me this was the first time they were in a residence that truly felt like theirs, and not their provider’s,” explained Carly.  “They now also have their own van that accommodates them both, taking them together to medical appointments and activities.”

The Thompsons were feeling at home.  However, Ryan had one request.  “I want to be able to sleep in the same bed as my wife,” said Ryan.  This was something they had never been able to do since they were married.  Then the search began to find the right bed.  Finally, Carly located a queen-sized hospital bed that moves up and down to help the staff support the couple with daily hygiene.

Today, the Thompsons are flourishing.  This fall, Ryan and Lisa will spend their first Thanksgiving and Christmas together in their new apartment.  Happy anniversary!
