Thank You to Our QIDPs! You Truly Make a Difference!
Today, we celebrate National Developmental Disability Professionals Day. Established in 2020 by the National Association for Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (NAQ), July 15 is dedicated to recognizing the compassionate and committed professionals who support, empower, and advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Role of a QIDP
A Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) is a trained professional responsible for designing, supervising, and implementing individualized support plans for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. QIDPs ensure that services meet the specific needs of individuals, often working in intermediate care facilities or community-based organizations. QIDPs also perform case management roles such as assisting with goals and helping people with disabilities engage in community programs. To qualify, a QIDP typically must have a bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field and at least one year of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
QIDPs and other developmental disability professionals play a critical role in improving quality of life, promoting independence, and supporting health and social development. For more information, go to NAQ.org.
